This Give to the Max Day, we’re rallying support to raise $5,000 to purchase native plant seeds that will help restore the hillside and shoreline habitat around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis - and we need your help.
For years, the Lake Harriet Environment Committee, and a dedicated network of organizations and volunteers have worked tirelessly to protect and enhance the lake’s ecosystem. From removing trash and invasive aquatic plants to restoring native vegetation along the shoreline, our mission has always been clear: to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of Lake Harriet for generations to come.
Now, we’re at a critical turning point.
Volunteers have removed invasive species like buckthorn and creeping bellflower from the hillsides surrounding the lake. While this is a major win for the environment, it’s left behind large patches of bare ground — vulnerable to erosion and reinfestation. But with your support, we can turn this challenge into a powerful opportunity.
Your donation will help us purchase locally grown native seed mixes that our volunteers will sow this fall and winter.
These seeds will:
Rebuild resilient native plant communities
Support pollinators, birds, and other wildlife
Improve soil stability and reduce runoff
Enhance water quality in Lake Harriet
Create a thriving, biodiverse landscape for all to enjoy.
This is more than a planting project — it’s a community-powered restoration effort that connects people to nature, protects our shared environment, and celebrates the spirit of stewardship. Every dollar brings us closer to a healthier Lake Harriet. Whether you give $10 or $100, your support will help us reclaim these hillsides with native beauty and ecological purpose. Thank you for being part of this journey!
